Dietary Thyrotoxicosis, Observed in a Family

Abstract

|
Since Basedow described hyperthyroidism, accompanying exophthalmus, enlargement of thyroid gland, in 1840, follow up studies were carried out to clarify this disease. It is well known fact that this disease is most frequent in the third and fourth decade, and is much common in woman than in man.
The mechanism of the stimulation of the thyroid in this disease is not known. Author had experienced thyrotoxicosis occurred in a family who took beef, containing much amount of thyroid tissue.
Patients were treated symptomatically and completely recovered at 18th day of the onset.
